26 Galway sports clubs benefit from funding for equipment under Sports Capital Programme

26 sports clubs and organsiations across the city and county have been successful in their applications under this round of the Sports Capital Progamme which is for equipment-associated projects. The clubs and organisations will benefit from an allocation of almost €730,000.

This funding which has been confirmed to me by my colleague, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin TD, will help sports clubs and organisations across our city and county.

The organisations that are benefiting include a wide variety of sports and activities that are enjoyed by people of all ages across Galway. The clubs receiving funding are active in sports including sailing, rugby, swimming, golf, basketball, hockey, diving, among others.

These applications relate to equipment-based projects. Nationally, a further 1,500 applications for non-equipment projects are being processed and will be allocated in September.

In keeping with the new system introduced by Minister Brendan Griffin an appeals process is in place for clubs that were not successful. The previous appeals process – the first of its kind – resulted in additional allocations being made in Galway.
