50 Galway businesses supported by Government to develop online presence

Over the last 12 months 50 businesses in Galway have been supported under the Trading Online Voucher Scheme.
Operated through the Local Enterprise Offices (LEOs) and funded by the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment, the Trading Online Voucher Scheme offers a financial incentive of up to €2,500 to small businesses to develop their online trading capacity, along with training, mentoring and support.

Under the Trading Online Voucher Scheme 50 businesses in Galway have been supported in the past 12 months.  The importance of the online marketplace for small, local businesses cannot be underestimated with Irish consumers alone spending over €7.8 billion online last year. However, the majority of this spend goes abroad and with the Trading Online Voucher Scheme we are aiming to keep more of the online spend in Ireland by helping businesses to launch or develop an online sales facility for customers both here and abroad.

Since the Scheme’s introduction in 2014 over 5,000 businesses nationally have been granted funding with 12,000 having received training on building out their online capabilities.

I am very encouraged by the results which I believe show that the Scheme is having a positive impact and is attracting small businesses from a wide range of sectors. The businesses that are benefiting are local businesses that are vital to the local economy and I encourage businesses that are not yet online to contact Galway’s Local Enterprise Office to find out more about the Trading Online Voucher Scheme.
