Additional Government funding of over €426,000 for Galway roads under the Local Improvement Scheme
An additional €426,651 is being allocated to Galway under the Local Improvement Scheme which is administered by my department, the Department of Rural and Community Development.
The funding is in addition to the allocation in September of €942,000 to Galway under the Scheme which was reintroduced by Minister for Rural and Community Development, Michael Ring.
The Local Improvement Scheme supports improvement works on private/non-public roads which are used by the public and lead to homes, farms or local amenities such as rivers and lakes in rural areas.
The roads included in the Local Improvement Scheme are regularly used by communities across Galway and their upkeep and maintenance is important for a variety of reasons including access and road safety.
Under the Scheme, the Department provides up to 90% of the funding to the County Council for the improvements. This additional funding of €426,651 is on top of the allocation of €942,000 in September brings to €1,368,651 the total amount of funding for Galway under the Local Improvement Scheme this year.
