Almost €375,000 to boost digital services and facilities at Galway libraries

Funding of almost €375,000 has been allocated to libraries in Galway by the Department of Rural and Community Development and Galway County Council. investment in digital services in Galway’s public libraries.

The investment will fund a significant enhancement in digital services available in public libraries across Galway and is part of a national programme of investment secured by my colleague at the Department of Rural and Community Development, Micheal Ring TD and informed by our national libraries strategy – Our Public Libraries 2022: Inspiring, Connecting and Empowering Communities’.

In Galway the allocation of €374,259 comprises €280,694 from the Department of Rural and Community Development and €93,565 from Galway County Council which manages library services across the city and county.

The funding will enable the provision of IT facilities including computer workstations, tablets and smart devices for members and staff, software to support learning and design, interactive whiteboards, meeting and conference technology and other training facilities.

The use of digital technologies by the library service shows that our libraries are evolving and are as relevant and as important to our communities as ever before. This funding also demonstrates that the Government values libraries and is committed to investing in them for the benefit of all in our communities.
