A total of €869,683 is being invested in local and regional roads in Galway under the Community Involvement Grant Programme.
The Community Involvement Grant Programme is operated by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and provides funding for the improvement of local and regional roads through a partnership between local authorities and local communities.
In Galway this year’s Community Involvement Grant Programme is providing an investment of €630,859 from the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport which will be augmented €30,480 from the community and work by the community to the value of €208,344.
The partnership approach, involving the county council, the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and local communities, will see a range of improvements including sight line improvements, drainage and embankment works, as well as improvements to entrances and the provision of passing bays.
The Programme will fund improvements to over 30 local roads across the county as well as sections of six regional roads which will benefit hundreds of residents in communities in addition to all users of these roads including motorists, cyclists and pedestrians.
