Agriculture is our most important indigenous industry and accounts for the majority of all Irish exports each year. It is an industry in which we are world leaders and are very well positioned to take advantage of the challenges of food security.
Our membership of the European Union has a significant effect on Irish agriculture through the Common Agricultural Policy. Reforming this Policy has commenced and I am fully supportive of the Minister in safeguarding Ireland’s agricultural sector and further realising its potential to help us in our economic recovery.
