€2.4 million has been allocated for housing grants for older people and people with disabilities in Galway. The funding includes €1.55 million for Galway County Council and €847,000 for Galway City Council and is augmented by the Councils’ own resources of €388,000 for the County and €211,000 for the City and will facilitate adaptations works to homes.
Funding for housing adaptation to improve mobility and access or to extend a home are issues which are raised regularly in my offices and at clinics in Galway.
The funding allocation from the Department of Housing, Planning, Community and Local Government is very welcome and will help improve the quality of life of older people and people with disabilities in Galway. The funding will facilitate improvements to homes that will enable people to stay in their homes for as long as possible.
Grants of up €30,000 are available for an adaptation of a home. Up to €8,000 is available for housing aid for older people and up to €6,000 is available for mobility aids and I’m encouraging people to find out more and considering applying for a grant.
