Households and communities in Galway are to benefit from a €3.5 million allocation to the Housing Adaptation Grants for Older People. The funding comprises an allocation from Government of €1.88 million to Galway County Council and €889,299 to Galway City Council from the Minister for Housing, Planning and Local Government, Eoghan Murphy TD. A further €471,762 and €211,075 is being allocated by the County and City Councils respectively from their own resources.
This total funding of almost €3.5 million is very important and will enable older people to improve their homes and make them more comfortable and accessible. The Housing Adaptation Grant Scheme provides funding to contribute to the cost of works which enable people, in particular, people with additional challenges such as restricted mobility, to stay in their own homes.
I know from my work in the constituency that there is a constant need for funding for these works and that schemes such as the Housing Adaptation Scheme make a direct and meaningful difference to the lives of people in communities across Galway.
The allocation from my colleague, Minister Eoghan Murphy TD to Galway has increased this year by 21% for the County and 4% for the City and shows that Fine Gael in Government is continuously committed to ensuring that the benefits of our country’s economic growth are felt by everyone.
