Fine Gael TD for Galway West & Mayo South, Sean Kyne has welcomed the publication of the tender for the air service to and from the Aran Islands.
The tender contract was published today (Tuesday) by the Office of Government Procurement on behalf of the Department of Arts, Heritage and the Gaeltacht. Expressions of interest in providing the service are being sought with a deadline of 12 noon on 8th June 2015. The value of the contract is €3.68m (excluding VAT) for a duration of 4 years from this September.
Commented Deputy Kyne: “I’m delighted to see the publication of the tender contract for this important service to the Aran Islands. The air service is vital for connecting the islands with the mainland and plays an important role in a number of ways including business, tourism and health services.
“The early publication of the tender contract is very welcome as it will help ensure a smooth transition from the current contract to the new one. With a duration of four years the completion of the tender process and the award of the contract will provide certainty for the Island communities.”
