I was delighted to join my colleague Finian McGrath, TD, Minister of State with special responsibility for Disabilities, when he visited Galway this week to announced the results of EmployAbility Galway’s 100 Jobs Campaign. The event took place at the Galway Technology Centre in Mervue.
EmployAbility Galway launched the 100 Jobs Campaign last June by inviting employers across Galway to pledge 100 jobs for people with disability.
EmployAbility Galway’s campaign has exceeded expectations with 101 jobs filled and 122 jobs pledged.
The EmployAbility service is a national employment and recruitment service dedicated to improving employment outcomes for job seekers with a disability. It is based on the ethos that participation in employment can be achieved by people with a disability when they are able to avail of individualised supports that are based on their choices and preferences.
At the launch Minister McGrath, who is wholeheartedly supportive of initiatives such as the 100 Jobs campaign said that it is an outstanding result and reflects last year’s phenomenal public response to the centenary of the Easter Rising. He commended all those involved in achieving the successful outcome of this initiative and said that it demonstrates the instrumental role that the job-coaching service provided by EmployAbility Galway plays in bridging the gap between people with disabilities and employers.
