‘Funding Approved for Casla Regional Water Supply Scheme’
The funding for the appointment of a contractor for the Casla Regional Water Supply Scheme has been granted by Minister for Environment, Community and Local Government, Phil Hogan, TD.
Galway West Deputy, Seán Kyne has been informed of the funding approval following recent representations which he made to the Minister on the issue.
Commented Deputy Kyne: “The funding of just under €2.5 million has been approved by Minister Hogan under his Department’s ‘Water Services Investment Programme’ which has seen in excess of €35 million investment in water and waste-water infrastructure in Galway over the last two years.
“Today’s funding announcement will enable Galway County Council to complete contract procedures with Ballinasloe-based MEIC Ltd. who applied for the public tender to carry out these important works.
“The Casla Regional Water Supply Scheme involves the construction of two reservoirs at Rosmuc and Glenmore in An Ceathra Rua as well as the installation of 7.5km of pipeline works in the Casla, An Ceathra Rua and Rosmuc area.
“This water supply scheme,” concluded Deputy Kyne, “is crucial to ensure a high quality water supply for the communities of South West Connemara and is being constructed in a manner which meets current demand but also future additional demand.”
