Funding for Galway’s Annual Festivals
Funding has been allocated to five annual Galway festivals under the 2019 National, Multi-Annual And Interim Festival Programmes, administered Failte Ireland and supported by the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport.
The allocation of €364,500, as confirmed to me by my colleague, by Minister of State for Tourism and Sport, Brendan Griffin, will support some of Galway’s best known festivals with a strong emphasis on the arts.
Among the allocations are €300,000 for the Galway International Arts Festival, €16,000 for the Galway Film Fleadh, €8,500 for the Clifden Arts Festival, €30,000 for the Galway International Oyster and Seafood Festival and €10,000 for the Comedy Carnival.
These festivals, and the many events associated with them, benefit Galway year after year and bring our city and county to international audiences. This investment by Government, through Failte Ireland, supports the local creative sector from visual arts to film and theatre to comedy.
As well as showcasing Galway’s renowned creative sector, the festivals also boost our local economy through tourism and and other related business.
