Galway and Mayo households can now receive up to half of the cost of energy retrofits under new Government Scheme

As Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment I am encouraging homeowners in Galway and Mayo to consider availing of the new Government Scheme to Deep Retrofit homes. The new multi-annual scheme will provide €5 million this year to help householders with the cost of upgrading their homes to an ‘A’ rating on the Building Energy Rating Scale.

This new Scheme will provide up to half the cost of an upgrade to a home to make it warmer and more energy efficient. In recent years technology and building materials have advanced significantly meaning that older houses can be significantly upgraded resulting in benefits to householders and also for the environment.

The Scheme will be administered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland which already successfully operates the Better Energy Homes Scheme, the Better Energy Warmer Homes Scheme and the Better Energy Communities Scheme on behalf of the Government.

By providing financial assistance to help with the cost of more substantial and extensive energy efficiency measures I’m hopeful that households across Galway and Mayo will consider availing of this new Scheme and in doing so reap the benefits such as lower energy bills and lower carbon emissions.
