Improvement works have started on the N59 and will run for approximately four months. The works focus on a 6.7 kilometre stretch of the N59 west of Oughterard towards Lough Bofin.
The works include the laying of a new high-quality overlay, the replacement of crash barriers, the installation of road markings, as well as actions to plane the road surface in certain locations.
While delays are unfortunately inevitable Galway County Council has assured me that traffic will be managed so as to minimise disruption.
Work is continuing on a major upgrade of the road between Oughterard and Clifden. Planning has been granted for the Oughterard to Maam Cross section and work is underway on the ‘method statements’ which An Bord Pleanala has made a requirement for environmental reasons. Work is also continuing on a new design for the Maam Cross to Clifden section.
The works starting this week will improve the condition of a 6.7 kilometre stretch of the N59 in the short term and will benefit all users of this busy road.
