Seán Kyne, Government Chief Whip, Aire don Ghaeilge, don Ghaeltacht agus do na hOileáin and Fine Gael TD for Galway West and Mayo South has welcomed a new 12% increase in funding for the Local Youth Club Grant Scheme for 2019.
The increase brings the overall Local Youth Club Grant Scheme allocation for Galway and Roscommon to €128,497. The increase will be a big boost to our volunteer-led youth groups by improving their ability to reach more young people and providing them with an improved programme of activities.
Commented Minister Kyne: “This increase in funding will be a welcome boost for our local youth groups. These groups are volunteer-led and do a huge amount of good for our communities around the county.
“Youth groups provide our young people with activities, adventures and opportunities. I have personally heard many accounts from young people of how their local youth group has encouraged their interests and developed their skills and talents while being a source of fun and something to look forward to in the week. Their impact is massive and this support is well deserved.
“The scheme is open to new entrants and applications will be invited by the Galway and Roscommon Education and Training Board. The scheme will be advertised on the ETB website over the next few months and I encourage our local youth groups to apply.”
