The much-needed improvements to the N59 on the approach to Moycullen village are to commence next month on December 1st.
Galway West/Mayo South Fine Gael TD Seán Kyne received confirmation of the start date today (Monday) from Galway County Council which is working in conjunction with the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport and the National Roads Authority on the project.
Commented Deputy Kyne: “Pursuant to clause 9.1 of the contract for the N59 Moycullen Road Improvement Scheme, the successful tenderer, Wills Bros. Ltd has notified the County Council that the proposed starting date is the 1st December.
“The €3.5 million project will enable the widening and re-alignment of the N59 from Clydagh, including Clydagh bridge, into Moycullen and also includes installation of cycle-lanes, footpaths and lighting.

“I warmly welcome confirmation of the start date. It must be acknowledged that there will be traffic disruption for the duration of the improvement works but I’m hopeful that the disruption will be minimised by a traffic management plan.
“These essential improvement works have been sought by residents and locals over several decades and will greatly improve road safety for drivers, cyclists, pedestrians, residents and visitors alike,” concluded Deputy Kyne.
