Funding of €9 million has been announced by my colleague the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Regional, Rural and Gaeltacht Affairs, Heather Humphreys TD, for the new Arts and Culture Capital Scheme which will run from 2016-2018. Arts and cultural centres across Galway, Mayo and the West can now apply for funding under the scheme.
The Arts and Culture Capital Scheme could greatly assist with the ambitious plans that arts groups and organisations across Galway and Mayo have.
At this initial stage, groups can apply for the funding under two streams, the deadline for which is the 16th of September.
- Stream 1 will offer grants from €20,000 up to €300,000 and is aimed at refurbishment and upgrade of facilities. A total of €4 million is available under this Stream nationally from 2016-2018.
- Stream 2 will offer grants from €300,000 up to €2 million for larger enhancement/expansion/refurbishment projects, involving construction works to arts and culture facilities. Funding of €4.5 million is available under this particular Stream from 2016-2018.
A further stream geared towards providing grants of up to €20,000 to community/voluntary groups for community-based projects will be announced later in the year. €500,000 will be available under this stream from 2016-2018.
I strongly encourage Galway and Mayo based groups to apply for this funding. Application forms and guidelines can be found on the website of the Department of Arts, www.ahg.gov.ie.
