Minister of State for Gaeltacht Affairs and Natural Resources and Fine Gael TD for Galway West and Mayo South, Seán Kyne has welcomed the opening of the new state-of-the-art building for Gaelscoil de hIde in Oranmore.
Speaking from the official opening, which was performed by Míchéal Ó Muircheartaigh, Minister Kyne said:
“I’m delighted with the opening of this brand new facility for Gaelscoil de hIde in Oranmore. The significant investment of €4.2 million by the Government provides not only a top class facility for the school for Oranmore and the wider community but also a great boost for the Irish language in this part of Galway.
“The work of Gaelscoileanna is greatly valued by my Department which recognises the excellent work at promoting An Ghaeilge and providing education ‘as Gaeilge’ outside of traditional Gaeltacht areas.
“Gaelscoileanna are also rightly recognised by Foras na Teanga, the All-Island language body established as part of the Northern Ireland Peace Process. Indeed, the Gaelscoileanna body, Gaelscoileanna Teo is one of the six partner organisations of Foras na Gaeilge.”
