On Tuesday 28th April the Oireachtas Committee for Jobs, Enterprise and Innovation, of which I’m a member, continued its meetings with representatives and stakeholders of the Creative Industries. The Committee is examining the potential for job creation, innovation and balanced economic development in the creative economy.
Among the speakers this week were – Orlaith McBride, Director of the Arts Council, Cathal Gaffney, Spokesperson of Animation Ireland and Co-Founder and CEO of Brown Bag Films, and John Phelan of Dublin Business Innovation Centre.
Issues raised at the meeting included
- resources and the demands on resources,
- applications under various funding schemes,
- the contribution of festivals to local economies,
- the amount of time allocated by RTE to indigenous Children’s TV programming.
