Over 1,400 Galway households have availed of Government energy grants in last 18 months

Better Energy Homes Scheme

Over 1,400 Galway households have availed of Government grants for energy upgrades in the past 18 months.

The grants are administered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI) and contribute towards the cost of a range of energy improvement and efficiency works including attic and wall insulation, boiler and heating controls upgrade, and solar heating.

It is very encouraging that over 1,400 Galway households have availed of these Government supports for energy upgrades in the last year and a half.

Since the launch of the ‘Better Energy Homes Scheme’ six years ago a total of 14,415 Galway households have received grants of over €11.5 million towards the cost of works which are designed to make homes warmer and reduce energy bills by up to 50%.

Such works increase the value of properties but also provide valuable employment for local companies.

In recognition of the value of the scheme to householders the Government increased the level of grants available by between 20% and 50% last March, removed the minimum grant requirement of €400 and introduced a new bonus of €300 and €100 for the third and fourth energy efficiency measure undertaken respectively.

I encourage householders who haven’t yet availed of the scheme to consider doing so and improve the energy efficiency of their home while reducing household bills.
