Over 250 jobs created by Údarás-supported companies in Galway in 2016

Udaras na Gaeltachta Jobs 2016Almost 3,000 employed at Údarás client companies in Galway – the highest figure since 2000

This week Údarás na Gaeltachta published its 2016 review showing very positive employment figures and that the Galway Gaeltacht has the highest level of job creation in Údarás client companies last year.

Údarás-supported companies created 252 new jobs in Galway’s Gaeltacht last year – a net gain of 62 jobs on the 2015 figure which brings to 2,932 the number of full-time jobs in Údarás-supported companies in Galway.

I warmly welcome the very positive employment figures for Údarás-supported companies in Galway. The almost 3,000 jobs created and maintained by a range of companies are vital for the West of Ireland economy as well as the Irish language.

Nationally, 559 jobs were created in 2016 bringing to 7,963 the number of jobs at Údarás-supported companies.

The success of Údarás in attracting investment and helping to create new and maintain existing jobs has been supported by the additional €2.4 million which I secured for Údarás na Gaeltachta’s capital budget during 2016. In co-operation with my Department, Údarás is working hard to build on this progress and aims to help create 500 new jobs this year.

Údarás will also play an important role in the Action Plan for Rural Ireland with over a dozen specific actions for which it is solely or jointly responsible for achieving.
