The Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht is providing Údarás na Gaeltachta and Foras na Gaeilge with an allocation totalling more than €1.7m to aid with the implementation of the language planning process during the current year.
€1.4m of the language planning allocation will be allocated to Údarás na Gaeltachta and €323,750 to Foras na Gaeilge to enable these bodies to continue supporting the implementation of the process during the current year.
I am delighted to provide this significant allocation to Údarás na Gaeltachta and to Foras na Gaeilge so as to enable them to continue supporting the successful implementation of the language planning process during the current year. With 15 Gaeltacht regions approved at this stage under the process, 12 officers appointed, 8 service towns engaged in the preparation of plans and language plans relating to 3 Irish Language Networks under consideration, major progress has been made.
This is a practical and influential measure that I expect will have a significant and positive impact on the health of the Irish language. The announcement follows the allocation of more that €1.9m, to which specific extra investment will be provided centrally to further aid the implementation of the process as it relates to the area of the household (Tuismitheoirí na Gaeltachta), early childhood Irish language education in the Gaeltacht (Comhar Naíonraí na Gaeltachta) and the traditional arts (Ealaín na Gaeltachta).
