€115,053 has been allocated to over 130 Galway community and voluntary groups under my Department’s Community Facilities Scheme.
Funded by the Department of Rural and Community Development, the Community Facilities Scheme was launched in March 2017 and is administered by the Local Community Development Committee is each local authority area.
The Community Facilities Scheme is a small-scale capital funding scheme from my Department which is helping community groups and organisations purchase equipment and resources for initiatives that are positively impacting communities right across Galway.
Under the Scheme €64,500 has been allocated to community groups in the county on a municipal district basis while over €50,000 has been allocated to groups and organisations in the city.
A wide range of organisations including residents’ associations, active retirement groups, arts groups, men’s sheds, educational groups, community centres, resource centres, Tidy Towns groups and scout groups have received funding under the Scheme.
The funding has enabled the community groups to purchase a variety of equipment including IT equipment, sports equipment, musical instruments, kitchen equipment, power tools, playground equipment and first aid equipment.
In the coming weeks my Department will be launching the Scheme for 2018 and my colleague, Minister Michael Ring and I are focused on ensuring that as many community and voluntary organisations as possible are supported in carrying out their work which benefits so many in our communities.
