€275,000 has been allocated for Galway under the Department of Rural and Community Development’s new Community Enhancement Programme. The CEP is the successor to last year’s Community Facilities Scheme and also includes the RAPID Scheme. It is a more flexible scheme which will help provide targeted funding to communities.
The new Community Enhancement Programme, which has been launched by my department colleague, Minister Michael Ring is providing €4.5 million nationally to fund enhancements and improvements across the country.
We have allocated funding of €143,401 for Galway County and €132,455 for Galway City which will be administered by the Local Community Development Committees in each local authority area.
Last year’s Community Facilities Scheme provided over €115,053 to over 130 Galway Community and Voluntary groups including residents’ associations, active retirement groups, community and resource centres, Tidy Towns’ groups, among others.
The new Community Enhancement Programme will build on this by providing funding for small-scale, but important and effective, projects including purchasing of equipment, minor building renovations, improvements to green spaces, among other projects.
The closing date for applications to the fund is 5pm on Monday, 30th July and I encourage all interested community groups in the city and county to consider applying to their Local Community Development Committee.
