Galway and Mayo will benefit from over €483,000 in funding for Local Sports Partnerships.
This investment will support the core work of the LSP Network in Galway and Mayo including the delivery of National Programmes, Education and Training initiatives, Strategic Development, Community Sports Development Officers, the Sports Inclusion Disability programme, and general participation programmes.
The vital work of the Local Sports Partnership Network in increasing participation, makes a substantial contribution to the health and welfare of individuals and communities.
The significant Government investment announced by my Fine Gael colleague, Minister of State for Tourism and Sport Patrick O’Donovan, will allow the Partnerships to continue to provide many sporting opportunities for people in local communities right across Galway and Mayo.
Under the funding Galway’s Local Sports Partnership will received €225,960 while Mayo’s Sports Partnership will receive €257,076. The will help the LSPs achieve their key aims which include to increase levels of participation in sport especially amongst specific target groups such as older people, girls and women, people with disabilities, unemployed people, and those who live in identified disadvantaged communities.
In 2017, a total of €5.92m will be allocated to the 29 established LSPs.
€740,000 will be allocated to support Community Sports Development Officer (CSDO) positions in 22 LSPs across the country. These Community Sports Development Officers will be tasked with activating local communities through a variety of means including the co-ordination of targeted programmes and education and training initiatives for clubs and communities.
