Over €95,000 investment in environmental projects in Galway

As Minister for Community Development, Natural Resources and Digital Development and Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment I’m delighted to be able to confirm an investment of almost €95,000 for environmental projects in Galway.

The funding has been allocated under the Local Agenda 21 Environmental Partnership Fund which comprises a mix of funding from the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment, City and County Councils and organisations’ own resources.

A total of 49 projects in Galway – 18 in the City and 31 throughout the County – are benefiting from funding of over €29,000 from the Department of Communications, Climate Action and Environment. This funding is being matched by €10,925 from Galway City Council, €18,055 from Galway County Council and €36,782 from the organisations which includes community groups, schools, and co-ops.

The projects are varied and include environmental education initiatives, the promotion of recycling and re-use of products, research into the use of composing in the business setting, the promotion of grow-your-own among households, the development of a community garden, as well as heritage and biodiversity projects, among others.

Projects such as these are helping communities and our country in making the transition to a low-carbon economy and society. Nationally, 834 projects are being funded under the 2017 Scheme which is an increase of over 100 on 2016.
