Progress is being made on the development of the Marine Innovation Park in Cill Chiarain – a key action for Connemara in the 2017 Action Plan for Jobs and the Realising Our Rural Potential Action Plan for Rural Ireland.
The development of a new Marine Innovation Park is being led by Udaras na Gaeltachta in partnership with the Marine Institute, NUIG, GMIT, Government departments and Galway County Council. The Udaras has this week sought expressions of interest to create a development plan for the project which will encourage and attract investment of the marine sector in the West of Ireland.
The development of the Marine Innovation Park is very significant for Connemara and the West of Ireland. The marine sector is indigenous to Connemara and is one of its competitive advantages.
The provision of top class facilities in a low carbon Innovation Park which will be carefully designed to complement the local landscape will build on the existing local marine-based development which provides employment for the local communities.
The development of the Marine Innovation Park which is anticipated to involve initial investment in excess of €3 m is a key action under the Stimulating Regional Growth objective of the 2017 Action Plan for Jobs and also the Realising Our Rural Potential Action Plan for Rural Ireland which my department is overseeing.
