Salthill Garda Station will continue to provide a 24 hour, seven days a week service for local communities including Salthill, Knocknacarra and parts of Connemara. This has been confirmed to me by the Chief Superintendent in Galway whom I spoke to this week regarding the inaccurate and false claims being made by some.
It is incredible to hear such inaccurate claims about An Garda Síochána being made by Fianna Fáil candidate, Ollie Crowe. Fianna Fáil stopped Garda recruitment by closing Templemore Training College. Fianna Fáil cut Garda numbers and starved our police force of investment.
In contrast, Fine Gael re-opened Templemore, recruited more Gardaí to reach a record high of 15,000 Gardaí by the end of this year with at least 700 new Gardaí to be recruited annually over the next five years.
Fine Gael has invested in infrastructure including vehicles and equipment as well as the new Divisional Garda Headquarters for the West in Renmore. And we are implementing the report of the Commission on the Future of Policing in Ireland so that An Garda Síochána is as effective as possible in keeping communities safe.
