With the retirement of Enda Kenny after 15 years of dedicated and committed leadership of Fine Gael the Party faces the important task of electing a new leader who will, in all likelihood, become Taoiseach.
Fine Gael is in a fortunate position to have a considerable number of TDs with the talent, skills and ability to be leader of the Party.
In politics the only promise I ever make is to do my best for constituents and for causes. I believe in being upfront and honest, of plain speaking and of listening. After consultation with supporters and with members of the Party I am supporting Leo Varadkar to become leader of Fine Gael and Taoiseach.
Since my election to the Dáil in 2011 Leo Varadkar has served as Minister for Transport, Tourism and Sport, Minister for Health and Minister for Social Protection. In each of these roles Leo has brought an energy and vigour and has introduced significant initiatives and reforms which have made a difference to people, businesses and communities across the country.
In my experience Leo is attentive, focused and encouraging and always available to Party colleagues and others who share a strong desire to see our country prosper.
