Minister for Gaeltacht Affairs and Natural Resources and Fine Gael TD for Galway West and Mayo South, Seán Kyne TD
“It has been an honour to serve under Enda Kenny. I always found him to be very interested and aware of what was happening in Galway and the Gaeltacht. Time and again he would ask how projects and initiatives were progressing and he was always ready to help launch key initiatives such as the State’s first ever Gaeltacht Education Policy last year. At the same time he was very encouraging to me as a new TD in 2011 and as a new minister of state last year.
“Enda Kenny has helped lead the country back from economic chaos. He has led policies that have seen unemployment reduced from 16% to 6%, reduced the current debt from runaway figures to one of the lowest debt to GDP ratios in Europe, and ensured the largest number of people at work in the history of the State.
“He has also been a leading force in social progress such as the Marriage Equality referendum and the State apology to women and children impacted by past social policies.
“On a European and international front, Enda Kenny has been instrumental in rebuilding relationships across Europe and restoring our international reputation.
“For Fine Gael Enda has been central to rebuilding the Party, taking it from its lowest ebb in 2002 and leading it into government not once but twice to become the first ever Fine Gael Taoiseach to be re-elected.
“For me and for so many Enda’s energy and determination have been an inspiration. Being the leader of the country can take a heavy toll on one’s private and family life with an unending schedule of meetings, events and engagements. I wish Enda and his family the very best for the years ahead.”
