Irish Water has confirmed that Spiddal Water Treatment Plant and Gort Water Treatment Plant are to be upgraded as part of a €1.54 million investment.
The works, which are due to start in the coming weeks, will ensure that both facilities are able to continue to provide a safe, reliable and quality water supply for their respective communities.
Given the serious problem that cryptosporidium posed a decade ago and the fact that such problems are ever present, it is particularly welcome to see that the upgrade includes filtration and ultra-violet disinfection procedures.
The provision of secure and high quality water supplies is essential for households, businesses and communities and particularly so to enable and manage growth in a sustainable way. I look forward to the works starting shortly and finishing in the autumn.
