Galway City Innovation District, the organisation behind the PorterShed, has sought expressions of interest from building contractors for the renovation of a warehouse at Bowling Green.

This progress on the expansion of the PorterShed is especially welcome for our city and county given the immense pressure on the economy due to the Covid-19 Coronavirus.

The proposed works will see the establishment of a new co-working and innovation space over two levels, including fit-out and other associated works.

With a team committed to Galway, the PorterShed continues to be an exemplary success in encouraging start-ups, supporting job creation and attracting significant investment to the West of Ireland.

That success, commitment and optimism has always been present and been pivotal as I sought support for the PorterShed at Government level and through State agencies with the most recent support – €1.295 million from the Regional Enterprise Development Fund – having been secured earlier this year.

Minister for Business, Enterprise and Innovation, Heather Humphreys, who has visited a number of times, has shared that belief in the PorterShed and its importance for job creation in Galway.

I look forward to the appointment of a contractor and the expansion of the PorterShed as well as the Galway Technology Centre, both of which are key to the future growth of Galway.
