Over €3 million has been allocated to Galway City Council for walking and cycling projects around the city.
The funding is part of a national allocation provided by the Government and administered by the National Transport Authority.
The funding will support the City Council to improve walking, cycling and public transport infrastructure.
The funding will also allow for changes to traffic management arrangements to enable the re-allocation of overall road space to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. This is particularly important given the social distancing requirements to help combat Covid-19.
Projects in Galway include:
- new street lighting at various locations
- new footpaths
- resurfacing of pedestrian streets
- new cycle lanes
- new bus shelters, among other projects.
The map above shows the approximate locations of the projects. Several of the projects are city-wide.
