The Stay and Spend Scheme has started and will run until 30th April next year. The Scheme enables us to help local businesses that are struggling with the challenge of Covid-19.

Under the Scheme, a 20% discount is available to customers of hotels, B&B, guest houses, cafés, restaurants, pubs and other participating businesses. The discount applies when you spend at least €25 on food, non-alcoholic drinks or accommodation. It is payable by way of a tax credit with the maximum credit at €125 (or €250 for couples) and applies to accommodation costs or food costs but not take-aways or take-out meals.

The Stay and Spend Tax Credit can be used to reduce the amount of income tax or the amount USC that you pay. Revenue has created an app through which you can upload receipts to avail of the tax credit.

There are currently 124 businesses, including cafés, restaurants, pubs, hotels and B&Bs, across Galway taking part in the Scheme.

Further supports are needed for the businesses and workers in our tourism and hospitality sector – our largest indigenous industry. Budget 2021, which will be published later this month, is an opportunity to provide new and enhanced supports for local businesses.
