I welcome the decision by An Coimisiún Pleanála to grant planning permission for the new pedestrian footbridge over the Owenriff River in Oughterard.

Congratulations to Galway County Council and all those involved in the Oughterard Community for their advocacy of this project over the years.

Transport Infrastructure Ireland must now proceed with this project as a matter of urgency. This footbridge will significantly improve safety for children attending both primary and secondary school.

I was pleased to work with individuals and community groups over many years on this project. Sincere thanks also to landowners for their cooperation.
